Ridiculously heavy and viciously brutal, Massachusetts’ Dysentery are proud to announce the release of their new full length “Internal Devastation” through Comatose Music. Dysentery’s brand of slamming deathgrind is honed to surgical precision on their second full length CD. Fusing gut wrenching grooves and unrelenting blasting all with massive production, this slab of sickness is out now!!!
Stereokiller:
I first became aware of Massachuttets’ Dysentery in 2004 through their split with Gutrot, “Excruciatingly Euphoric Torment.” I was instantly hooked. They played brutal death metal exactly the way I loved it: heavy as hell, grooving like no other, and slamming like mad. There was a note of hardcore influence, but they NEVER sounded like a deathcore band as the hardcore influence seemingly stemmed from 90s hardcore and not metalcore.
I didn’t hear anything from the band for a little bit, then in 2008 they released their first full length From Past Suffering Comes New Flesh. It kept in the tradition of the split tracks with the brutality flowing freely. Unfortunately it also came with a less than stellar production which honestly hampered the quality of the songs. Not terribly long after they had a lineup change. The bassist moved to guitar and they gained the bassist of Proteus. A 2 song promo was written and recorded. Those two songs alone destroyed the entire full length.
The band seemingly has the strongest lineup they’ve ever had. Now back in with their follow up, Internal Devastation appears to be what a crowning achievement of what the band was going for all along. From the very first seconds it’s obvious that the production is miles away from the last album. It is thick and heavy as hell, so heavy you’ll need a forklift to pick it up.
The band is firing on all cylinders on these 14 tracks. Making no apologies, the album brutalizes anything that gets in its path. Slam may be quite popular within death metal right now, but this is how slam is meant to be played. When they slam, they slam and seem to be aiming to inflict pain. It’s all done so with an undeniable level of catchiness in the riffs. I keep coming back to listen to it and have found it to already be one of my top listens of 2011.
Seeing as this is the lineup that Dysentery has always wanted and gaining the sound they’ve always deserved, they rerecorded some old tracks to give them the justice they deserve. We get two re-recordings from the split, two from the first full length, and one from the 2009 promo. All of those songs are in their full glory on Internal Devastation and we still get 9 new songs! This is the cream of the crop when it comes to slamming beatdown death metal.
P.S., I have to say kudos to the drummer for wearing an E-Town Concrete sweatshirt in a promo pic for a death metal band!
